We have recently concluded our first-ever Student Bright Futures Week – a campaign designed to bring the voices and energy of UK students to the forefront of our mission. Together, we shone a light on the challenges faced by children growing up in extreme urban poverty in Nepal and celebrated the power of young people to drive change.

Why Bright Futures Matter
Behind Nepal’s breathtaking landscapes, thousands of children living in extreme urban poverty face daily risks of trafficking, child labour, exclusion, and exploitation. Girls are especially vulnerable – many grow up invisible to systems, excluded from education, care, and opportunity.
Stories of Resilience
Throughout the week, across our social media channels, we spotlighted the ways young people in Nepal are building futures against the odds:
- Microbusinesses with £50 and a dream – small grants are helping young people launch businesses, build confidence, and redefine what’s possible.
- The power of sport – football , cricket, and volleyball are giving young people the tools to rebuild confidence, challenge inequality, and reclaim their futures.
- Kidasha Champions – students like Josh Williams stepped up to raise awareness, showing how peers across the UK can make a real difference.
Inspiring Student Action
Student Bright Futures Week wasn’t just about raising awareness – it was about mobilising action. We saw inspiring momentum from universities and societies across the UK:
- University of Sheffield Women’s Cricket Club hosted a fundraiser and shared their passion for sport.
- SOAS World Development Society committed to fundraising in November.
- University of Birmingham’s International Development Society and Women in Politics Society pledged to support our Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign in December.
- Nepalese Societies at University of West London, Royal Holloway, University of Reading, Buckinghamshire New University, and InterVol Society Manchester amplified our message across social media.
Bright Futures Start With You
From charity football matches to yoga sessions, momo suppers to simple conversations – every action, and every pound, helps raise awareness and hope for children in Nepal.
Student Bright Futures Week was just the beginning. Now we’re calling on more students and young people to join us. Your fundraiser, your voice, your energy can help rewrite the story for children facing exclusion, exploitation, and poverty – because every child deserves a brighter, safer future.
