On World Day Against Child Labour, key stakeholders gathered in Pokhara to explore practical strategies for promoting child-friendly local governance and reducing child labour at the community level.

This collaborative event – led by Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Labour and Employment Office Gandaki – brought together Child Focal Persons from 30 wards of the city. These local officials are responsible for safeguarding vulnerable children, and their role is critical to long-term, systemic change.
Participants shared insights on legal frameworks, community challenges, and effective solutions, reinforcing one key message: protecting children from exploitation must be embedded in local governance and community priorities.
At Kidasha, we work with over 500 child labourers each year and successfully reintegrate around 25% of these with their families – transforming their futures and reducing their risk of long-term harm.
Events like this are more than symbolic – they show what’s possible when local systems, policies, and people come together with a shared purpose. They also highlight the growing momentum behind our mission: to create safe, inclusive communities where every child can thrive.
But we cannot do this alone. Your support enables us to:
- Advocate for stronger local protection systems
- Provide direct support to exploited and at-risk children
- Reunite families and build resilience at household level
- Influence policy and practice at local and national levels
With your help, we can scale these solutions and accelerate the end of child labour in Nepal.
