Breaking Boundaries Tournament 2025

June 5, 2025

Kidasha’s Breaking Boundaries Project, funded by the MCC Foundation, has been bringing the joy of cricket to young people living in poor urban areas in Nepal since 2020.

Sport as a Catalyst for Change – Children growing up in urban poverty in Nepal have little or no access to regular sports, limiting opportunities for growth beyond the classroom. Breaking Boundaries isa key part of Kidasha’s work with community groups and government schools to integrate sports education into the curriculum and ensure every child has the chance to participate.

Why? Because regular sport promotes:

✔ Teamwork & Leadership
✔ Social Skills, Tolerance & Inclusion
✔ Positive Attitudes & Mental Wellbeing

This year’s annual tournament, undoubtedly the most exciting part of the Breaking Boundaries project, started in mid-May with an impressive 600 participants – 300 girls and 300 boysaged 11-17 competing across 66 matches; and 20 schools.

The finals took place on 2nd June, where Amarsingh Secondary School claimed victory in both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments.

In the boys’ final, Amarsingh edged out Barahi Secondary School by just 2 wickets in a highly competitive match. Chasing a target of 103 runs, they sealed the win with a last-ball boundary! And, in the girl’s final, Amarsingh secured a commanding 7-wicket victory. Sophia Gurung, named Player of the Match, took an impressive 6 wickets.

Individual awards winners:

  • Boys’ Best Player & Best Bowler – Abhishek Adhikari
  • Boys’ Best Batter – Samrat Adhikari
  • Girls’ Best Player – Sonima Magar
  • Girls’ Best Bowler – Sophia Gurung
  • Girls’ Best Batter – Shraddha Gurung

A great event, enjoyed by all the cricketers and their supporters, but this tournament isn’t just about runs and wickets. It’s about empowerment, inclusion, and unlocking potential through sport.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making it such a great success.
